How to Cold Plunge

Hey there! We are Coold - a cold plunging equipment rental service here in Vancouver, BC. We specialize in collaboration & community events to bring the cold plunge experience to local communities. But how does one cold plunge?

Cold plunging, or cold water immersion, can be done using various methods. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to cold plunge:

  1. Find a suitable cold water source: Identify a location or facility that provides access to cold water. This could be a cold-water pool, a natural body of cold water like a lake or river, or even your own bathtub.

  2. Check the water temperature: Use a thermometer to measure the water temperature and ensure it falls within the desired range for cold plunging, typically between 50°F (10°C) and 60°F (15.6°C). Adjust the temperature if necessary.

  3. Start with a warm-up: Before entering the cold water, it can be beneficial to warm up your body a bit. Perform some light exercises, such as stretching or gentle movement, to increase blood circulation and prepare your body.

  4. Gradually immerse your body: Slowly enter the cold water, starting with your feet and gradually submerging the rest of your body. Some people prefer to immerse up to their neck or chest, while others may choose to fully immerse themselves. Find a depth that is comfortable for you.

  5. Focus on your breathing: As you enter the cold water, try to relax and focus on your breathing. Take slow, deep breaths to help regulate your body's response to the cold.

  6. Stay in for a brief duration: Initially, aim for shorter durations of about 1 to 5 minutes, depending on your comfort level and experience. Over time, you can gradually increase the duration as your body adapts to the cold.

  7. Listen to your body: Pay attention to how you feel during the cold plunge. If you start to experience discomfort, shivering, or any negative symptoms, it's important to exit the water and warm up.

  8. Warm up afterward: Once you've completed your desired duration in the cold water, exit and immediately warm up your body. Wrap yourself in warm towels or blankets, and perform some light exercises or movements to help raise your body temperature.

  9. Repeat as desired: Cold plunging can be incorporated into your routine as frequently as you like. Some people do it daily, while others may do it a few times a week. Find a frequency that works for you and your goals.
